5 THINGS: The Business of Government Business

What's on the event calendar for today? Plenty of government business – it's business time.

Here are the Five Things for Tuesday, March 6, 2012:

Adjust your decoder rings! There will be a Narragansett School Committee from 6 p.m. to question mark at Narragansett Town Hall. In case you’re going by the school calendar issued out in September, realize that the meeting is Tuesday night (tonight), and not tomorrow, as originally scheduled.

“I’m tired of hearing it said that government doesn’t work. Of course it doesn’t work. We are supposed to work it.” – Alexander Woollcott. Outside of that school committee meeting, there are several other government bodies meeting tonight, all at Narragansett Town Hall.

  • The Conservation Commission meets at 5:30 p.m.
  • The Harbor Management Commission meets at 7 p.m.
  • Also meeting at 7 p.m. is the Housing Authority.

All meetings are free to attend, of course. For more information on any of the town’s boards or meetings, visit the town’s official website here.

“Winning is like deodorant. When it comes up, a lot of things no longer stink.” – Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. Speaking of basketball, the high school girls’ basketball team will attempt to play on in the Division II playoffs. The Mariners play the top seed from the North, Moses Brown, at 8 p.m. at Rhode Island College. Johnston vs. Classical is at 6 p.m., if the Mariners win, they will play in the Division II championship 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ryan Center. Can’t make it to Rhode Island College tonight, or want to re-live the glory (hopefully) after the fact? Follow along on our live blog here.

“The only place success comes before work is the dictionary.” – Vidal Sassoon. Hey business owners, have you claimed your free Patch listing yet? We realize that it can be tough for us, as the editorial side, to keep up on things like your hours and days off and what not. Therefore, why not control things yourself? “Only the little people pay taxes.” – Leona Helmsley. I’m getting my taxes done today, so if you can, everyone, try to stay out of trouble today. I need to get my income tax refund, and hopefully make a very cheesy 1990s-ish commercial about it. (And yes, that totally is Beth from Newsradio in that commercial.)
