Westerly Police Capt. Shawn Lacey confirmed for Stonington Patch that a 22-year-old Chicago man was charged with trespassing after routine patrol discovered him "coming out of the bushes" on Lighthouse Road near Taylor Swift's home in Watch Hill after 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Lacey said reports that indicate police found him in the water are not true. Lacey said, “He very well might have been in the water at some point, but not when we found him.”

Lighthouse Road is adjacent to 16 Bluff Avenue, the new home of 23-year-old superstar singer Taylor Swift. The pop phenom paid $17.75 million for the mansion overlooking Block Island Sound.

Lacey said the man was not on Swift’s property, but he was close by. “Was he there to try and see her? I guess you could make that connection.”

Lacey identified the man as Lucas Vorsteveld and said he has no criminal record. He was issued a summons to appear in June in Fourth Division District Court in Wakefield, RI.

Lacey said the website TMZ listed the Westerly Police Department telephone number and he has been inundated with calls: “Non-stop.”

Patch asked Lacey how the department would cope with the level of celebrity in his town.

“It’s a learning curve for all of us,” he said. “She has security on her property and if they need us, they will call us. We’ll see how this all goes.”

How is that a crime? It is not! People are allowed access on the road! Shame on the Westerly Police Department!

Why can't people leave celebrities alone... that is why they buy secluded places... to relax....
