Suspicious Package Causes Pier Middle School Evacuation
Officials confirm the package is not being considered a threat, but are taking precautions.

Update: Police and fire personnel continue to block the area off to the the public as a precaution, however the package is not believed to be a threat. Law enforcement and school officials have not commented on the specifics of the package in question.
After school activities for the middle school have been canceled for the day.

1:57 p.m.: At approximately 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, Narragansett school officials and local authorities ordered the evacuation of Pier Middle School school following the discovery of what was said to be a "suspicious package" outside of the building.
According to a tweet from Kingston Fire (@KingstonFire RI), Hazmat and Decon teams were activated along with the RI Bomb Squad to investigate. In the interim an automated emergency call when out to parents informing them that students had been evacuated to the Narragansett High School soccer field where they could be picked up, board their regular school buses, or be allowed to walk home at 1:55 p.m., the school's normal dismissal time.
