South Kingstown Police Log: May 14, 2012

A Westerly teen is arrested for driving under the influence, and a celebration for the end of exams ends in arrest for four URI students.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Westerly Teen Charged With DUI

A 17-year-old Westerly girl was arrested on Sunday, May 13 at 2:23 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, BAC greater than .15. According to reports, the girl and her two passengers told police they had just left a party on Balsam Road, though the girl denied consuming any alcohol. After failing a field sobriety test the driver was arrested and transported to the station where a blood-alcohol screening registered levels of .265 and .273 an hour after her arrest. The incident was referred to Family Court.

Four URI Students Arrested At End-Of-Term Party

A report of a loud party at 65 Quagnut Drive lead to the arrest of four University of Rhode Island students on alcohol-related charges on Friday night:

  • Sam V. Crum, 20, of 121 North Chatsworth Ave., Larchmont, NY, was cited on Friday, May 11 at 12:30 a.m. and charged with possession of alcohol by an underage person.
  • Vincent A. Nicoletti, 20, of 27 Tuscarora Drive, Oakland, NJ, was cited on Friday, May 11 at 12:30 a.m. and charged with procurement of alcohol for a minor.
  • Jordan S. Goldie, 19, of 26 Michael Drive, Burlington, MA, was cited on Friday, May 11 at 12:30 a.m. and charged with procurement of alcohol for a minor.
  • Patrick J. Cadden, 20, of 45 Sudbury Road, Weston, MA, was cited on Friday, May 11 at 12:30 a.m. and charged with procurement of alcohol for a minor.

Police broke up the party at the student-rental home where four under 21-year-old people live without further incident. The roommates told police they were celebrating after completing exams earlier that day. All four students will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on May 24.

Domestic Assault Charge

Nathan J. Harvey, 23, of 290 Church St. Apt. 6, South Kingstown, was arrested on Friday, May 11 at 6:36 p.m. and charged with domestic simple assault. He was arraigned in Fourth Division District Court and released on $1,000 bail with surety pending a hearing on May 24.

Arrested On Warrant

  • Frank A. Centolella, 42, of 332 South Pier Road, Narragansett, was arrested on Thursday, May 10 at 5:11 p.m. on a bench warrant from Fourth Division District Court for failure to appear for a payment review. Centolella made payment and was released later that day.
  • Curtis J. Hicks, 55, homeless, of South Kingstown, was arrested on a bench warrant from Fourth Division District Court on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:40 p.m. He was arraigned in Fourth Division District Court the following day.
  • David G. Stoll, 44, of 115 MacArthur Boulevard, South Kingstown, was arrested on Saturday, May 12 at 6:50 p.m. on a bench warrant from Fourth Division District Court for failure to appear on the ability to pay for a suspended license charge from Charlestown.  Stoll was unable to post bail and was transported to the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston.

Drunken-Driving Charges

  • Kevin Peter Collin, 22, of 29 Tupelo Road, South Kingstown, was arrested on Tuesday, May 8 at 9:11 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence, second offense, BAL unknown, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and cited for roadway violations and the presence of alcohol in his car. Collin will be in Fourth Division District Court on May 21.
  • Dennis Lee Rash, 49, of 208 Niblick Road, Summerville, South Carolina, was arrested on Friday, May 11 at 11:31 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Rash will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on May 24.
  • Jason P. Santos, 27, of 23 Orange St., Rumford, was arrested on Sunday, May 13 at 1:21 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on May 24.

Local Teen Arrested For Firing Air-Soft Pistol At Road Signs

Douglas E. Arnold, 18, of 504 Middlebridge Road, South Kingstown, was arrested on Friday, May 11 at 7:14 p.m. and charged with firing across a highway, a misdemeanor. According to reports, Arnold allegedly used an air-soft pistol to shoot road signs while driving around neighborhoods off of Broad Rock Road. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on May 24.

Drug Possession Charge

Travis A. Johnson, 21, of 2 Tockwotten Cove Road, Charlestown, was arrested on Friday, May 11 at 7:36 a.m. and charged with possession of marijuana, first offense, and driving in possession of a controlled substance. Police stopped Johnson for speeding on Route 1 and after he allegedly acted suspiciously, located a mason car containing marijuana, a plastic bag with marijuana inside, a glass pipe, and $1,460 in cash. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on May 24.
