South Kingstown Police: Drunken-Driving, Underage Drinking and More

All arrest information was supplied solely from the South Kingstown Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate a conviction.

The South Kingstown Police made the following arrests and citations last week:

  • Joan M. Demasi, 81, of 33 Gaspee Point Drive, Warwick, was arrested on Friday, July 5 at 2:20 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence - first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test after she allegedly rear-ended another car on Tower Hill Road. When police arrived, officers noted an odor of alcohol around Demasi's car and she submitted to - and failed - a field sobriety test. Demasi was arrested on suspicion on drunken-driving and during a subsequent search of her car, police found a bottle of Burnett's vodka and a Honey Dew coffee cup containing a clear liquid that was later found to be alcohol.Demasi was released and issued a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Devin A. Price, 20, of 243 Sandy Turn Road, South Kingstown was cited on Thursday, July 4 at 10:10 p.m. and charged with possession of an alcoholic beverage by a person under 21 years of age after he was involved in a crash on Old Tower Hill Road. He was also cited for the presence of alcohol in his vehicle. He was released and issued a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court.
  • Joshua P. Gurney, 28, of 1117 Douglas Ave. Apt. 202, North Providence, was arrested on Thursday, July 4 at 9:46 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence - first offense, leaving the scene of an accidence, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Gurney allegedly crashed into a pickup truck while traveling on Route 1 North near Ridge Road and then fled the scene. Due to heavy beach traffic conditions, police were able to catch up to Gurney's truck. Gurney denied involvement on the Route 1 crash and told officers that the substantial damage to his passenger side view mirror and to the front end of his truck happened while it was parked earlier that day. After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested Gurney on suspicion of drunken-driving. He was later released and issued a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Matthew R. Cox, 22, of 1685 Kingstown Road, South Kingstown, was arrested on Saturday, July 6 at 5:25 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence- first offense, and failure to maintain proper control of his vehicle after his truck crashed into a tree on Columbia Street. When police arrived at the scene of the accident, Cox was reportedly slumped over the steering wheel, unresponsive, but breathing. As a police officer banged on the window, Cox eventually woke up, but appeared confused and answered questions with difficulty. South Kingstown EMS arrived on scene and began preparing Cox for transport to South County Hospital. After he allegedly admitted to police that he drank four beers, police conducted a horizontal gaze nystagmus test, which he failed. Police decided to charge Cox on suspicion of drunken-driving pending the results of a blood test. Upon being released from the hospital, Cox was transported to police headquarters on Kingstown Road for processing. He was released on a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Warren Sanford, 37, of 13 Tweed St. Apt. 1, Cranston, was arrested on Friday, July 5 at 10:54 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence - first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police allegedly saw Sanford swerving in his Honda Accord as he traveled down Kingstown Road. Police stopped Sanford, noticed an odor of liquor on his breath, and asked him to complete a field sobriety test. He failed. He was arrested and subsequently refused a breath analyzer test. He was released on a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Heather Ryan, 29, of 341 Martins Pond Road, Groton, MA, and Brad Rodrigues, 28, of 70 Twi Oak Drive, Warwick, were cited on Friday, July 5 at 8:04 p.m. and charged with public drinking after police saw them drinking from light blue plastic cups containing alcohol as they walked along Matunuck Beach Road. Both were released at the scene and issued a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Matthew B. Reitzell, 37, of 10 A Middlebridge Road, Narragansett, was arrested on Sunday, July 7 at 5:11 p.m. and charged with domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct after he allegedly hit his wife in the face in the parking lot of Shaw's Supermarket. Reitzell was issued a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Coralimar Reyes Torres, 22, of 35 Harold St. Apt. 1, Providence, was arrested on Friday, July 6 at 11:30 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest following an argument in the north corner of the South Kingstown Police station parking lot. WHen Reyes Torres refused to comply with police demands to calm down, she was arrested. She was released on a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Nathan B. Finnegan, 20, of 15 Woodstock Lane, Wakefield, was arrested on Friday, July 6 at 1:37 p.m. and charged with improper conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing an officer in execution of duty after he allegedly ran from a police officer who saw him urinating on the beach. He was issued a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Timothy J. Adams, 19, of 24 Shadow Ridge Drive, Richmond, was arrested on Thursday, July 4 at 8:27 p.m. and charged with possession of alcohol by a person under 21 years old after a police officer on bike patrol observed him drinking a can of beer in a car parked on Holley Street. He was released at the scene and issued a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Ashley L. Conley, 18, of 7 Shagbark Road, Narragansett, was cited on Wednesday, June 3 at 2:01 a.m. and charge with transportation of alcoholic beverages by a person under 21 years old after police stopped her for failing to use her turn signals on Kingstown Road. Upon approaching the car, police smelled marijuana in the vehicle and conducted a subsequent search. Police reportedly located a small amount of marijuana, and two partially filled bottles of vodka. Conley was issued a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Gary Alan Barnes, 56, of 420 High St., South Kingstown, was arrested on Tuesday, July 2 at 7:26 p.m. on a bench warrant issued from Fourth Division District Court for failure to appear. No arraignment information was available.
  • Christopher Lee Harvey, 23, of 290 Main St., Pawtucket, was arrested on Tuesday, July 2 at 9:30 a.m. and charged with possession of an ounce of marijuana. He was also wanted on two warrants issued from Fourth Division and Sixth Division District Courts. Harvey was arrested after the car he was driving in was stopped for a motor vehicle infraction on Kingstown Road. During a search of the car, police found marijuana in the truck, which Harvey admitted was his. He was then transported to Fourth Division District Court for arraignment.
  • Joseph Vasquez, 21, of 1700 Main St., West Warwick, was arrested on Tuesday, July 2 at 9:15 a.m. and charged with resisting arrest after police attempted to arrest him for driving without a valid license. He was processed that day at South Kingstown Police headquarters and released on a summons for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court on July 18 at 9 a.m.
