After Driving Through PD Lot, Doing 64-Second Keg Stand, Warwick Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Peter S. Lee, 20, of 80 Oakside St., Warwick, was arrested at about 12:15 a.m. on June 27 and charged with drunken driving. Police said Lee is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, a dispatcher said that a black Jetta had driven through the north lot of the police department erratically and almost hit a curb. The dispatcher also told police that the car appeared to run a red light at the intersection of Kingstown Road and Curtis Corner Road.

Police said they were able to catch up to the car on Broad Rock Road, and estimated its speed at more than 50 miles per hour. A traffic stop was made north of Dale Carlia Street.

According to police, Lee smelled of alcohol, and it took him several attempts to remove his license from his wallet. Police also noted that Lee handed them two insurance cards, and that it took him several tries to locate his registration despite it being in plain sight in a stack of papers.

Police asked Lee to submit to field sobriety tests, which they said he failed. He was arrested and charged with drunken driving. A passenger in the car was unable to drive it from the scene, so the car was towed.

According to police, the passenger told them that he and Lee had been at a party earlier that night.

The passenger allegedly told police that Lee had “only had a couple,” but added that Lee did a keg stand and “beat everyone at the party, 64 seconds.”

John D. Celico, 18, of 155 Old North Road, South Kingstown, was cited at about 6:38 p.m. on June 27 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor.

According to police, two officers monitoring the traffic at Geaber’s Liquors noted a transfer of alcohol outside the store between a woman in Celico’s car and an unidentified man. Police said they followed the car, driven by Celico, as it accelerated to 50 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone on Route 1.

Police made a traffic stop on Route 1. After questioning, the passenger admitted that there was alcohol in the car, and police confiscated two six packs of Narragansett beer and a 750 mL bottle of Captain Morgan spiced rum.
