SK Police Log: Charging Officers, Interrupting Firefighters

The following is based on reports from the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Charging To Avoid Charges

Christopher Lee Harvey, 23, of 290 Church St., South Kingstown, was charged with assault and resisting arrest on Aug. 22 after he allegedly tried to elude officers attempting to arrest him on a Superior Court bench warrant.

Officers on patrol noticed Harvey — who they reportedly know from past incidents — riding a bike on High Street just after 2 a.m. After discovering his warrant, they followed him to his parents’ house on Church Street, where he reportedly refused to exit the home. After his father opened the front door, Harvey allegedly charged at officers, throwing one to the ground and landing on top of him, where he continued to struggle. After a threat of being pepper sprayed, Harvey covered his face, allowing officers to gain control and take him into custody.

All Fired Up

Leroy A. Cook, 45, of 25 Columbia St., South Kingstown, was charged with disorderly conduct on Aug. 24 after he reportedly tried to enter his burning house while firefighters were working to extinguish it, then threatened members of the crowd that had gathered and again tried to interrupt the firefighters’ work.

Officers arrived to find Cook yelling into his burning home for “Lori” and his father, who were safely across the street. After officers pointed them out, Cook allegedly began yelling and swearing at them in front of a crowd of about 80 people. He then allegedly threatened an onlooker, asking if he had started the fire. Even after several warnings, Cook reportedly refused to calm down, and again interfered with firefighters, stepping over the fire hose and walking underneath their ladders. Officers took him into custody and released him later that night.
