SK Police Log: August 10, 2012

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Warwick Man Charged With Assault, Vandalism

Douglas Authelet, 36, of 54 Cambridge Ave., Warwick, was arrested at about 10:12 p.m. on Aug. 10 and charged with assault and vandalism.

According to police, they were called to Casey’s Grill and Bar after receiving a report of an assault. A 45-year-old Narragansett man told police that Authelet had assaulted him in the dining room.

Police said that according to witnesses, the dispute had been broken up by patrons in the dining room. The victim suffered cuts to his face and hands, and his shirt was covered in blood, police said.

According to police, the victim told them that Authelet was upset that the victim was dating his ex-girlfriend. As a result, he had also made threats toward the victim’s life on Facebook.

South Kingstown police broadcast a bulletin of the incident, and North Kingstown police stopped a silver 2001 Audi with Authelet in it for speeding in their town. During that traffic stop, Authelet was found in possession of a handgun.

Authelet posted bail for the South Kingstow charges of assault and vandalism, but reports noted that there were three felony charges pending in North Kingstown, so he was held overnight at their station as a result.

Providence Man Charged With Suspended License Violation

Vatthana Symoungkoun, 29, of 127 Ruggles St., Providence, was arrested at about 1:09 a.m. on Aug. 10 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, while an officer was waiting to turn on to Route 1 South from the South County Commons, he ran the plates of the car in front of him. The check revealed that the car’s owner – Symoungkoun – had a suspended license for multiple driving violations.

A traffic stop was made near Legend Rock Road. Police said that Symoungkoun admitted that his license had been taken for multiple speeding violations, and he was arrested without incident.

He was processed and then released at about 2:25 a.m. His car was towed from the scene.

Cranston Man Charged With Expired License Violation

Billy J. Silva, 33, of 19 Eddy St., Cranston, was cited at about 12:34 a.m. on Aug. 10 for driving with an expired license.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic at the Valero Gas Station on Tower Hill Road noted a Volvo with an unreasonably loud exhaust and a defective rear plate light. A traffic stop was made nearby on Tower Hill Road.

Police said that a check of the driver’s background – Silva – revealed that his license expired in December 2010. He was cited for this violation, and for not having his license at the time of the traffic stop, and warned for the loud exhaust. He was allowed to drive from the scene.
