SK Police: Driver Reportedly Triple the Limit

The following is based on reports from the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The South Kingstown Police Department made the following arrests this week:

Maureen A. Plunkett, 60, of 58 Briarwood Drive, South Kingstown, was charged with driving under the influence Nov. 14 at about 10 p.m. after she was reportedly in an accident at Tower Hill and Kingstown roads. She reportedly hit another car and tried to leave the scene before the other driver stood in front of her car to keep her in place.

When officers arrived, Plunkett reportedly appeared confused and did not respond properly to their requests. Plunkett reportedly continued to attempt to hand an officer her license even after being told three times to hold onto her information, according to reports. When officers asked her if there was any damage to her car, she reportedly walked to the other car involved. She also seemed confused where she was coming from, telling officers she had just left CVS and Belmont, but she had been driving toward them.

Despite reportedly reeking of alcohol and appearing unsteady on her feet, Plunkett insisted she had not been drinking that night. She refused field sobriety tests insisting she didn’t have to take the tests because she just told the officer she hadn’t been drinking, reports indicate.

Officers arrested her for suspicion of drunk driving anyway, and later allegedly measured her blood alcohol level at .25, more than triple the legal limit of .08.
