A Rhode Island man was sentenced to eight years in prison Wednesday on drunk driving charges after a head-on crash in South Kingstown killed a 53-year-old woman in 2012, the Providence Journal reported.

James Mulcahey, 47, who lives in a portion of Carolina that is located in Richmond, was sentenced in Washington County Superior Court after pleading guilty to Driving Under the Influence death in connection with the Rte. 2 accident that killed Warwick resident Donna Eddy in August 2012, according to the report.

Eddy reportedly died at the scene after her car was hit head-on by Mulcahey's on South County Trail near the town line of South Kingston and Richmond. Eddy's 1-year-old granddaughter was in the car at the time of the accident, but survived, according to the report.

Mulcahey, who was indicted by a Washington County Grand Jury last May, was ordered to report to prison on Wednesday, April 23, according to the Journal.
