RI Jury Commissioner Charged With DUI

Rhode Island’s jury commissioner will soon be experiencing a much different courtroom experience following a drunken driving charge this week.

John T. O’Hara, 56, of South Kingstown was arrested in North Kingstown by Rhode Island State Police on Aug. 15 after he allegedly rear-ended another car. Police responded to Route 4 near Oak Hill Road around 10:45 p.m. that night. Troopers stated that the accident was “minor” and the drivers sustained “minor injuries,” according to the Providence Journal.

O’Hara was charged with a DUI and cited for refusing to take a Breathalyzer before spending the night at the State Police Wickford Barracks.

He became RI jury commissioner in 2009 after spending eight years as an associate commissioner. In his capacity as jury commissioner, he is responsible for “identifying and summoning qualified jurors” for grand and petit juries.
