Michael P. Bood, 26, of 73 Windward Walk, North Kingstown, was arrested at about 2:33 a.m. on Oct. 31 and charged with:

  • Drunken driving, third offense, a felony

  • Assault
  • Resisting arrest
  • Driving in possession of a controlled substance

According to police, they received a report of a Mercury Mountaineer parked on the side of Tuckertown Road, with the driver passed out behind the wheel.

Police said that when they arrived on the scene, they met with the calling party, who handed police the keys to the vehicle. He told police that the man behind the wheel – Bood – was “sloshed,” so he took the keys so he wouldn’t be able to drive.

According to police, a check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that Bood had been flagged in the system because of previous arrests. Police said during a previous car stop, a gun had been found in Bood’s car, and as a result, the calling party was told to leave the scene for safety reasons.

Police said the hood of Bood’s vehicle was warm to the touch, and when they knocked on the window, he snapped awake. Police said when they asked Bood basic questions, he refused to answer, and instead said, “Do YOU have a license, what’s YOUR name?”

According to police, when Bood stepped out of the car, his pants fell down because they were unbuttoned, and his belt was also undone. Police noted that Bood was shirtless, and also smelled strongly of alcohol.

Police said that Bood refused to submit to field sobriety tests, and instead swore at police and kept addressing one officer via a racial slur. Police arrested him right after he allegedly spit on one officer’s boots and told them, “**** you.”

According to police, Bood fought and resisted arrest, and had to be shoved into a squad car as a result. Police said he then spit repeatedly on the windows and divider of the car.

Police said an inventory of Bood’s car revealed a smoking pipe, eight marijuana cigarettes, a pair of handcuffs and a machete. These items were confiscated as a result.

According to police, throughout booking Bood was combative and uncooperative. He repeatedly accused one officer of smiling, and said, “Why are you laughing at me?” and “I’ll ****ing kill you.”

Police noted that Bood refused to cooperate during booking, which was taken as a refusal to submit to a chemical test. He was held for arraignment at Fourth Division District Court on the morning of Oct. 31.

He did not make bail and was transferred to the ACI – A status conference is scheduled for Nov. 7, and felony screening is scheduled for Dec. 11. According to online records, Bood has several past and pending charges:
