Narragansett Police Log: June 11 and 12, 2012

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Narragansett Teen Charged With Felony Drug Possession

Nathan William Bonn, 19, of 32 Fernleaf Trail, Narragansett, was arrested at about 3:27 a.m. on June 12 and charged with felony drug possession (amphetamines) and driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer driving behind a car on Boston Neck Road saw it swerving slightly. As a result, a traffic stop was made near St. Veronica’s Church.

Police said that as the driver – Bonn – opened his glove box to get his information, they could see a marijuana grinder in the glove box. When asked about it, Bonn allegedly said, “I forgot that was in there.”

Bonn allegedly told police that he might also have a pipe with a small amount of marijuana in it. A background check of Bonn revealed that his license had been suspended in November 2011.

Because of the marijuana grinder and the suspended license charge, police searched Bonn’s car. Police said they found a pipe, a small plastic bag with trace amounts of marijuana, and a small bag with two pills marked “Amphet Salt 20mg.”

When asked about the pills, Bonn allegedly told police that they were Adderall and that he didn’t have a prescription. He was charged with felony drug possession and transported to headquarters. His car was towed from the scene.

Narragansett Man Charged With Driving With A Suspended License

James G. Gorman, 30, of 5 James St., Narragansett, was cited at about 7:12 p.m. on June 11 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Point Judith Road near Sunset Farm clocked a pick-up truck at 66 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made near Bill Sweet Drive.

Police said a background check of the driver – Gorman – revealed that his license was suspended on June 7 for failing to file an accident report. As a result, he was cited for driving with a suspended license, and also for speeding.

Gorman was processed at the scene without incident. A passenger in the pick-up truck was allowed to drive it from the scene.

North Kingstown Man Charged With Driving With A Suspended License

Jesse J. Arruda, 29, of 1221 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown, was arrested at about 5:42 p.m. on June 11 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer stopped behind a blue Buick at the intersection of Point Judith Road and South Pier Road noted that the car had a defective brake light. A traffic stop was made at O’Neil’s Package Store.

Police said a background check revealed that the driver – Arruda – had a suspended license. He was arrested without incident and transported to headquarters for processing. A passenger was allowed to drive the car from the scene.

Providence Man Charged With Driving With A Suspended License

Rey A. Herrera, 22, of 488 Hartford Ave., Apt. #4, Providence, was arrested at about 9:27 a.m. on June 12 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer traveling behind a green Hyundai Accent on Mumford Road noted that a brake light was out on the car. A traffic stop was made on Mumford Road.

Police said they recognized the driver – Herrera – from past arrests. A background check revealed that his license was suspended, and he was transported to headquarters without incident.

Police said that during the traffic stop, marijuana could be smelled, and “blunt guts” (small pieces of tobacco) were on Herrera’s lap. However, a search revealed no marijuana. A passenger was allowed to drive the car from the scene.

Narragansett Woman Found Sleeping by Charlie O’s Dumpster

At about 2:21 a.m., an officer on routine patrol saw a woman sleeping by a dumpster in the Charlie O’s parking lot.

According to police, the woman was later identified as a 21-year-old Narragansett resident. However, when she was awakened by the officer, she couldn’t give police her name or any other information.

Police said the woman at first denied drinking, or taking any drugs or medication. After further questioning, she gave police her name and said she had had two drinks. Police noted that she also tried to open the trunk of the squad car for unknown reasons.

The woman was transported to her home on Prospect Avenue without incident, where she was taken care of by a family member.
