Narragansett Police Log: August 29, 2012

A Pawtucket woman is charged with domestic assault, and two college students are cited for driving violations.

Pawtucket Woman Charged With Domestic Assault

Charlene A. Curran, 34, of 80 Calder St., Pawtucket, was arrested at about 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 29 and charged with domestic assault.

According to police, a warrant was issued for Curran’s arrest following an incident on Aug. 5. Details of this incident were not included with Curran’s arrest report.

Police said Curran was made aware of the warrant, and turned herself in on Aug. 29. She was arrested and transferred to Fourth Division District Court for arraignment at about 2 p.m.

Massachusetts Teen Cited for Transportation of Alcohol

Mackenzie J. Ahrens, 19, of 5 Long Hill Road, Franklin, MA, was cited at about 12:38 a.m. on Aug. 29 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Ahrens is a student at RIT.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Point Judith Road noted a car making an illegal U-turn. A traffic stop was made near Clarke Road.

Police said that while speaking to the driver, a marijuana pipe was in plain view in the center console. They asked Ahrens for the pipe, and also asked if there was anything illegal in the car. Police said that Ahrens told them that he had some alcohol.

According to police, an inventory of the car revealed seven 12-ounce cans of Natural Ice beer, two Poland Spring bottles of an unidentified mixed drink, and a gallon-sized bottle of another unidentified mixed drink.

The alcohol was confiscated and disposed of, and Ahrens was cited. Police noted that there was not enough marijuana to field test, and Ahrens was allowed to drive from the scene at about 1 a.m.

Rhode Island College Student Cited for Suspended License

David M. Bedard, 22, of 167 Tremont St., Central Falls, was cited at about 1:47 a.m. on Aug. 29 and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police said Bedard is a student at Rhode Island College.

According to police, an officer traveling at 45 miles per hour on Point Judith Road noted a car in front of him driving at a faster speed. Police said the car was clocked at 57 miles per hour, and a traffic stop was made near Bill Sweet Drive.

Police said a background check of the driver – Bedard – revealed that his license was suspended in December 2011 for failing to appear at a court hearing. He was cited, and the car was towed from the scene.
