Kingston Man Arrested During Family Court Warrant Sweep

RI State Police, Division of Sheriffs and U.S. Marshals Service arrested 30 individuals during Wednesday's sweep.

Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, announced that on Wednesday, Sept. 4, members of the State Police Detective and Uniform Bureaus, in coordination with the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs and United States Marshals Service arrested 30 individuals as a result of a coordinated early morning warrant sweep throughout the state.  

The sweep resulted in the arrest of 26 individuals due to body attachments issued by the Rhode Island Family Court for failing to appear for court proceedings and failure to pay child support. Those arrested collectively owe $367,724.37 in child support payments, and the highest amount any individual arrested owed was $37,760.30.  

In addition to the individuals arrested for the Family Court body attachments, three individuals were arrested for Superior Court warrants and one for a warrant issued by the Third Division District Court. One person was also arraigned as a Fugitive from Justice from the State of Connecticut on original charges of Escape from Custody.

Among those arrested was Jeffrey Monroe, 43, of Kingston, who was arrested on a Reciprocal Body Attachment, as well as bench warrants issued from Superior Court. 

All subjects were processed at State Police Headquarters and transported by the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs to the Providence County Family Court, Providence County Superior Court, or the Sixth Division District Court.

“I want to commend our troopers and sheriffs for facilitating this operation and bringing these defendants to court to face their debt," said Colonel O’Donnell. "It is unfortunate that this was necessary to ensure that they meet the obligations that they have to their families.”
