Davisville Student Teacher Charged With DWI

According to Narragansett police reports, a student teacher at Davisville Middle School was arrested for drunken driving after an officer allegedly saw her driving with a smoking, flat tire.

Christine M. Ryan, 28, of 88 Ladderlook Road, Warwick, was arrested at about 12:11 a.m. on April 13 and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police said Ryan is a student teacher at Davisville Middle School in North Kingstown. According to their online directory, Ryan is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer stationed at Westlake’s Garage smelled burning rubber and then saw a silver Honda Civic pass by his position with what appeared to be a flat tire.

Police said the officer got behind the car, which was attempting to drive on the flat. The car had its turn signal on while veering in and out of the breakdown lane.

A traffic stop was made near Green Kinyon Driftway. When the officer asked the driver – Ryan – about the flat, she told police that she hadn’t noticed it. Police noted that the tire was smoking, completely flat and missing portions.

When asked where she was going, police said Ryan told them, “Close.” When asked for further details, police said Ryan told them she was coming from the Mews in South Kingstown and heading to East Greenwich.

Police said Ryan smelled of alcohol, and her speech was slurred. When asked if she had been drinking, Ryan told police she had had two beers.

According to police, Ryan failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. At the station, police said the Intoxilyzer printer was malfunctioning, so Ryan was taken to South County Hospital for a blood test, which she consented to. Results from the blood test were held until they could be tested by the Rhode Island Department of Health Toxicology.
