Fire Crews Battle Blaze On Curtis Corner Road

South Kingstown fire crews have brought a barn fire under control at 488 Curtis Corner Road that reportedly contained propane, kerosene and ammunition. 

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze around 8:20 p.m. after the resident of 488 Curtis Corner Road reportedly called in the fire, followed quickly by a call-in by Union Fire District Deputy Chief Kevin Quinn who was traveling down Curtis Corner Road at the time. Engine 18, which was also in the area, was the first to respond followed by Engine 10, Ladder 2, Engine 3, and Ladder 1.

The fire was initially radioed in by firefighters as knocked down at 8:35 p.m., but fire crews continued to battle flareups on the building's second floor, according to Union Fire District Deputy Chief Kevin Quinn.

Neighbor Toni Stewart reported seeing heavy fire from the front window at about 8:20 p.m. before fire engines arived.

Though radio dispatch reports initially revealed that there may have been kerosene, propane, and ammunition inside the barn, South Kingstown Assistant Fire Marshal Chris Heiner would not comment on the structure's contents and said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
