White White Wine

While I can’t promise you white sand beaches, blue sky and pool boys, we can at least shoot for a step above reality.

Just imagine yourself, sipping a cool drink on a warm day, rocking back and forth on the porch, looking out at beautiful flowers and a deep blue sky.

What’s that in your hand? Why, it’s a glass of white wine sangria, blissfully soothing your worries away. The sweet, summery taste of fresh fruit and tart wine will help push you past the nagging kids and stacks of dirty dishes to a land of freedom.

Sangria is incredibly easy to make, very rewarding (trust me) and – since you need to prepare it a day in advance – will give you something to look forward to. You just need the following ingredients and a pitcher. Simple enough, right? Prepare it Thursday night, and then on Friday you can come home, kick off your shoes, pour a glass and toast to the weekend!

Ingredients

  • 1 Bottle of white wine (your choice)
  • 1 Orange
  • 1 Apple
  • 10 oz Club Soda
  • ½ cup Triple Sec
  • ¼ cup Sugar

Step 1: Cut up the apple and orange into thin wedges. Place them in the pitcher. You can use other fruits too if you want, like lemons, limes, strawberries, peaches, cherries, etc.

Step 2: Open the bottle of wine and pour into the pitcher.

Step 3: Add ¼ cup of sugar to the mix and pour in Triple Sec.

Step 4: Let sit in the fridge overnight so the wine can absorb the fruit flavor.

Step 5: Take out the next day and right before serving, add club soda. For a sweeter taste, use ginger ale.

The great part about a simple recipe like this is you can customize it to suit your tastes. I suggest also including a front porch rocker, or perhaps a chaise lounge on the back deck, and maybe a little umbrella, just for kicks.
