LETTER: Wilkens Asks For Your Vote

Candidate Chris Wilkens wants your vote for District 34 on Nov. 6.

To the editor,

I believe that the only legitimate reason to run for General Assembly in 2012 is out of an overwhelming concern for the now and future of our community and state. This is why I am running and ask for your vote.

We must stop drifting from crisis to crisis without a vision, sense of purpose or urgency to fix the problems that have plagued our state for so long. All of my campaign literature and yard signs all have the motto – “Restore Rhode Island."

I am committed to finding solutions that will help make our state a place where people and business move to, not from... Where the tax burden is among the lowest, not the highest... Where employment opportunities for our children are plentiful, not rare… And where the representatives of the people are committed to the high calling of making Rhode Island the model of the most dramatic turnaround in the country.

Let’s just fix Rhode Island. No more excuses and no more blame!

I ask you for your vote on Nov. 6 because it is not about me – it’s about us! Thank you.

- Chris Wilkens, candidate for District 34

Chris Wilkens will be a great rep for all of us in South County. He has my vote, what about you?
Local Resident November 01, 2012 at 07:00 PM
I don't see anything other than rhetoric stated here. No actual ideas to make any change. It appears to have been this way throughout the campaign. When did candidates stop putting their party affiliation on signs and mailings?

I've deleted a comment for swearing. You're not allowed to use Carlin's seven, folks.

More platitudes and no plan. If he does get elected, he will sit in the back of the room with the rest of the Republicans, pretending to be relevant. He will accomplish nothing, because he has nothing to offer.

Tanzi's agenda is the environment and transportation issues. She voted for the bloated budget and has been a rubber stamp for the democrat machine and the NEA who put her in there. Let's limit this nonsense to one term - this town needs a voice for the people, not another for the unions
Lisa herbert November 01, 2012 at 11:58 PM
You have my vote . So much change is needed here in RI. I think voters are finally realizing this.

Voting for Chris Wilkens
On the Beach November 02, 2012 at 02:08 AM
Last time I checked, Tanzi voted against the unions by voting for pension reform, and was not endorsed by the NEA. So, stick to the facts. Voters in Narragansett don't have the luxury of waiting for Wilkens to "find solutions." He should come to a campaign ready with actual solutions. who can take him seriously? Where are your specifics Mr. Wilkens? Which regulations? Which taxes? And how do you plan on paying for your cuts? My guess is he could not even name two committees, has never testified on a piece of legislation and has no idea what to do if elected. That much is clear in his empty rhetoric. Tanzi has specific regulations to reform for the hospital and URI, she wants to better fund Higher Ed and has a way to pay for it- reforming tax expenditures. She wants to help small businesses by leveling the playing field and closing giant corporation's loopholes. With all due respect, Mr. Wilkens has none of the experience necessary to function effectively at the state level. Just look at the shape Narragansett is in, and ask yourself if he is really the one you want at the state house. I think the answer is clear, maybe he should have studied a little more before the test, but we cannot wait for him while he is "finding solutions." If it were really that easy and obvious, he'd have given at least one specific by now.

“She wants to help small businesses by leveling the playing field and closing giant corporation's loopholes.” Why would Teresa Tanzi beat up companies that create jobs in Rhode Island during this time. She just does not get “it” and despises any large/medium size company. RI listed as the worst state for doing business, . Simple, if we chase and shut businesses out of Rhode Island and people have no jobs then small businesses will fail. No money/job = no spending locally. People move. "With all due respect, Mr. Wilkens has none of the experience necessary to function effectively at the state level." With all due respect, Teresa Tanzi has none of the experience necessary to function effectively at the state level. She has no leadership experience, no work experience, no technical skills, no public speaking/communication skills... Probably should just pay back the federal and state loans/scholarships racked up while attending higher ed for most her adult life. “Carpetbagger” is a good description

"sitting on the fence" also describes Teresa Tanzi http://blogs.wpri.com/2011/11/22/not-everyone-who-voted-for-the-pension-bill-actually-backed-it/

Nancy is a committed community activist and works to protect our young people. She knows well who is the best fit for state rep in this District. I am with Nancy.. VOTE CHRIS...!~
Jim November 02, 2012 at 04:46 AM
Tanzi even has her fundraisers in Providence. She's what the kids call a "poser"... she is a phony extraordinnaire. Chris is an ordinary guy, he won't bring home the bacon but neither will Tanzi... there's no money left. At least with Chris, I know I'm getting someone who is not a fake. P.S. Why are the Foremans supporting Chris ... Teresa brags about helping them pass the bill but word on the street is it what just the opposite. Hmmm..../
Katie November 02, 2012 at 04:54 AM
Tanzi: FOUGHT against VOTER I.D. -- voted against it... and fought with the people of color who supported it. Tanzi: put in poison pill bills which would have watered down pension reform in order to appease her friends in the teacher unions... I know about this... went to a fundraiser for her on Great Island... can spot a fraud like Tanzi a mile away Tanzi: took large donations from Speaker Fox... embeds herself with him and will not speak against his tyrannyical behaviour. Tanzi: pro- Deepwater... will hurt the environment... the fishermen do not like Teresa... only two boats like her... she favors them over the rest... most of the fishermen are voting for Wilkens Tanzi: is not your parents' Democrat... wants to tear down RI traditions like the Cross in Woonsocket and supported the ATHEIST in Cranston TANZI: supports ACLU and NEA Tanzi: has no legitimate support from working people... they know she is out to kill jobs by beating up on the companies left here... she introduced bills to hurt companies like Hasbro which runs a Children's Hospital and is one of the largest philanthropies in RI TANZI: married to a doctor and doesn't work.. .doesn't understand my life as a waitress and a teacher.
Katie November 02, 2012 at 04:57 AM
P.S. One more comment about Rep. Tanzi... I am embarrassed to say that she got into a fight with the Capitol Police "advocating" for the Occupy Providence folks to stay in our State House while voting was going on. At least I want a state rep who doesn't take the side of anarchists who spit on me and my kids when I am walking around Providence.

Lies, manipulations of truth and still no ideas about what Mr. Wilkens plans on doing. Readers, please don't look here for facts, don't listen to hate radio, use your own judgement not that of the haters among us. I came to this article thinking I might find a single idea that the author might put forward to help our state, and there was not one. Good luck to those who vote for him, you'll get more Christmas Tree bills and other useless fodder, and lots more rhetoric.

Read the words of the candidates not the commenters to find your answers.
RITaxpayer November 02, 2012 at 10:10 AM
So 'On the Beach', you sound pretty satisfied with the way the democrats are running this state. Not me and I will be voting for Chris. RI is rated last in everything that matters and you want to stick with the status quo. Smarten up.
Danielle November 02, 2012 at 08:04 PM
Hi, I have no patience for name-calling, etc. Teresa has stated in public that she will not hold a Town Hall Meeting like other reps do around our state. That's a dealbreaker for me. At the very least I should expect my state rep. to reach out to me, and not expect me to be trying to connect with her. I don't know Chris... I only see that he has worked with Democrats for six years; been a gentleman and facilitator of good things in Narragansett. I live in SK... I want a rep. who gets my life and knows that I am barely hanging on to my job and my house. We need to get some balance in our state.
Danielle November 02, 2012 at 08:14 PM
I agree with you Nancy.
Shannon November 03, 2012 at 03:11 AM
Judgment? Haters? Seriously? Wilkens is a decent guy who will do the decent thing. There's no hate nor conspiracy here... just folks who feel that Chris is one of us... and will work hard and tell us the truth. More importantly, he has lived here for 34 years and won't forget where he came from and who he is.
Tim Roberts November 03, 2012 at 04:57 PM
I will proudly be voting to re-elect Teresa - she has done everything she said she would, and more. She has passed a ban on out-of-state pair trawlers to keep jobs in Galilee. She was the one to figure out why the final bike path extension was stalled, and got it out of DOT gridlock. I love that she puts her personal cell phone number on everything - I've never had a hard time reaching her. And this past week when I had to report the damage to my home, she was the one who helped me report the claim to 2-1-1 and the town as well as my insurer. She has been a tireless advocate for our community and has consistently worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to find smart and practical solutions. Tanzi for Today and Tomorrow!!

Ms Tanzi is way too far left in her views. Mr Wilkens would be a much better choice for residents of Narragansett. Good Luck Chris !!! Michael G Riley Narragansett
