South Kingstown Boy Who Died in Crash Loved Animals, Sports

Brandon Austin was killed in an ATV crash in South Carolina July 16.

Visiting hours were held Thursday for Brandon Austin, the 13-year-old South Kingstown boy who was killed in an ATV crash in South Carolina earlier this month.

Authorities said Austin was riding near the community of Prosperity when he lost control and crashed. He was not wearing a helmet. A 12-year-old who was also riding on the ATV was uninjured.

Austin was remembered his love of friends, family, sports, and cars.

"He was a good friend and a surrogate little brother to many," his obituary reads. "His goal was to make everyone smile (much to the dismay of all school personnel). Even at his young age, when he met someone that had a need, he had to take care of it. He would help grownups with shoveling and carrying in groceries."

Funeral services for the boy will be private.

To honor his memory, the family asked that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the South Kingstown Animal Shelter at 132 Asa Pond Rd. in Wakefield.
