Narragansett Places first at the Fair!

While many families in South County are gearing down for the summer, one tradition is just getting started.  The Washington County Fair is celebrating its 47th year this summer, and what a celebration.

For most families, you plan to attend the fair with family and friends Saturday or Sunday, but not some students at Narragansett High School.  Back in May Greg Breene had his students workikng on the desgin for this years entry into the fairs Landscape design.  If you attended that plant sale they had then you would have seen them growning the plants to be used in the display.  The theme this year was "Sustainable garden".  "See those tomato plants, I planted those" said Senior Timothy Sweet Jr., as he was giving me a personal run down on the entire display.  "Mr. Breene had us working on this one day, and I thought, this one will be cool".  Sweet continued to say.  Narragansett took first place in the contest, as they have many times before.  The landscape design contest is one that any school with a FFA ( Future Famers of America) can enter.
The FFA was not the only winner for our little town.  The saturday before the fair a rehearsal with seven young ladies took place.  The Washington County Fair Royalty contest was held on the Sunday before the fair.  Contestants were judge on the following areas, application, beauty, and  speaking ability.  The young ladies are required to submit an application along with an essay on why they would be a good Princess or Queen for the fair.  On the day of the contest, they had to stand before the judges and give a brief bio on themselves.
Each girl stood there, some shaking with nerves, others showing no fear what so ever.  Then on Wednesday night, the crowning.  Each were required to attending the first day of the fair in their beauty gown, a sight for anyone one to see at fair, but to any little girl, this is AMAZING!
This years Queen is Sierra Walker- 18 from Exeter .

She just graduated from the Prout School, and will be attending Salve Regina in the fall as a freshman.  The Princess is Dianna Campbell, 15 years old from Narragansett!  She follows in her older sisters Mariahs footsteps.  Mariah was the 2010 Princess and the exiting 2012 Queen.  "I cant believe I won"Campbell stated as she walked for photos, "I mean I wanted to show myself I could be strong and confident, and I guess I did!"  Dianna was runner up last year to SK native Noelle Bernier.

This years runner up was also from Narragansett, 14 year old Veronica Webb.   Ronnie, as she is called by friends, is one of the captains for her schools color guard team.   Both Dianna and Ronnie are on the schools Color guard team.
