Courthouse to Give 'A Christmas Carol' Unique Twist, Innovative Design

West Kingston's Courthouse Center for the Arts will host "A Christmas Carol" December 5-22, 2013.

The Courthouse Center for the Arts in West Kingston and the Rhode Island Shakespeare Company are pulling out all the stops to make their production of A Christmas Carol one to remember.

The show, directed by Joe Wallace and produced by Loraine Lesniak, will feature an innovative set and characters created by the world famous Big Nazo Lab, which has performed around the world and locally in parades and at Waterfire. The Providence-based performance group is now is creating special, “family friendly” characters to portray the various ghosts in the story. 

In addition to the unique performance, patrons can get some Christmas shopping done as local vendors will be selling their wares before and during Saturday matinees throughout the show's three-week run.

Snacks and beverages will be available for sale at the venue, as well as wine from Newport Vineyards, a sponsor of the event.

On opening night, Dec. 5, the renowned Very Merry Dickens Carolers will appear and perform a free and open-to-the-public concert before the show from 7-7:30 p.m. In addition, at noon on Saturday, Dec. 7, Santa will pay a visit to meet with children and have pictures taken before the production's first family matinee begins at 2 p.m.

A Christmas Carol will be performed Dec. 5-22 at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, located at 3481 Kingstown Road in West Kingston. Thursday through Saturday night performances will take place at 8 p.m. Matinees will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
