2013 Thanksgiving Football Preview: Narragansett vs. EG

The Narragansett Mariners will take on the East Greenwich Avengers Wednesday night, for an unusual Thanksgiving Eve football game.

WHEN: 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27

WHERE: Carcieri Field, East Greenwich High School, Avenger Drive.

HOW MUCH: $5 for adults, $3 for students at the gate.

WEATHER FORECAST: As of Tuesday night, the forecast called for rain to end tomorrow at 6 p.m. – just in time for the game! Temperatures tomorrow night will be in the 50s.

TEAM RECORDS: East Greenwich is 5-5 (4-4 league); Narragansett is 4-5 (4-4 league). To qualify for the Division III playoffs, the Mariners must defeat East Greewich High School (4-4) and Mount Pleasant (8-0) must defeat Classical (5-3). 

HISTORY of RIVALRY: Narragansett has won 7 of the last 13 Thanksgiving match ups, so East Greenwich has a chance to pull even.

With the Mariner's 28 - 11 victory over Classical High School on Saturday, November 16th, the Mariner's Football Team remains in the playoff hunt for the fourth and final playoff berth. To qualify for the Division III playoffs for the third consecutive season, the Mariners must defeat East Greewich High School (4-4) and Mount Pleasant (8-0) must defeat Classical (5-3). Both games will be played on Wednesday evening, Nov. 27. The Mariners vs. Avengers game at East Greenwich High School begins at 6 p.m. The Mt. Pleasant Classical game begins at 5:00 pm and is being played at Conley Stadium (Mt. Pleasant). If Classical wins or Narragansett loses, Classical will be the number 4 seed in the playoffs.

The #4 seed will play Mt. Pleasant, the #1 seed, on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The game will be played at Conley Stadium beginning at 6 p.m. The other game in the Division III playoffs will be the #3 seed, Middletown vs. #2 seed, Moses Brown. That game will also be played on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Site and time of game to be determined.
