SK Elks Offer Free Turkey Dinners Thanksgiving Day

Volunteers from South Kingstown Elks Lodge No. 1899 served 310 free meals to members of the community last Thanksgiving and continue the tradition this year.

Continuing their tradition of serving the community, members of the South Kingstown Elks Lodge No. 1899 will once again be volunteering their time this Thanksgiving to serve free turkey dinners to anyone interested in joining them.

Guests are invited to enjoy the home cooked meal featuring all the traditional holiday fixings regardless of financial situation or other factors.

Fred Pearce, Elks member and activity director, explained that Lodge offers the Thanksgiving dinner as a way to promote charity and brotherly love, while making sure that no member of the community eats alone during the holiday. (That being said, individuals who would like to receive a meal but would rather eat at home can have the food delivered by making prior arrangements.)

Guests will also be sent home with Thanksgiving dinner leftovers, perfect for lunch on Friday!

The dinner will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the Elks Lodge located at 60 Belmont Avenue in Wakefield. Guests are asked to RSVP by calling (401) 783-7819, to help the Lodge estimate a head count.

The majority of the food served on Thursday will be prepared by members of the Elks Lodge, who hosted a Turkey Trot last weekend, raffling off 90 turkeys to raise money for the Thanksgiving Day meal.

In addition, a staff of volunteers will be available to provide rides to and from the dinner (arrangements can be made by calling the number above prior to the event).
