On 'Dinosaurs'...

OK, I'll admit it...I am a dinosaur, a social-relic, of a sort, a 'Lack-o-tech-asaurus', if you will. Yes, of course, I am savvy enough, to utilize the web, in ways which serve my purposes; yet, I am limited in the myriad of other, technological involvement that many subscribe to. I do not TWEET, SKYPE, or VLOG, and, til recently, didn't even know what a 'hash-tag' was. While growing up, rockin' a transistor-radio w/ ear-buds was about as 'high-tech' as I ever got...funny! Today, we are surrounded by, and, inundated with, technology; all of it great, in it's own right. But, just like anything else, there does exist a negative side to it, as we know. Without  going into all of the 'not so positive' features of a world filled with technology, I will comment on, only, one, aspect. I will preface my commentary with the admission of my being 'older', and, having not grown-up in the world, as it exists, with technology, today. OK, then...here goes. I have a lil' bit of difficulty understanding the way so many people 'communicate', these days. I 'get' the whole 'texting' thing; sometimes it's easier to shoot off a text, rather than make a phone call, when attempting to correspond to someone who is, physically, out of reach. What I don't understand is,  when I witness two folks, sitting opposite one another, face-to-face, with each engaged in his/her own tech-activity, all the while, barely, acknowledging the person opposite him or herself. It has become the 'norm' for groups of folk, great and small, to, all but, ignore one another, in lieu of 'tweeting', etc. I have witnessed this behavior, countless times, while in many, social, situations. Today's technology, and, the majority's, seeming, need for it, has created a breed of people, who, are so caught up in the act of updating each and every move they make, that they're, virtually, not, truly, engaged in anything that they're experiencing; sorta like texting while driving, you can't really perform, well, at one, while simultaneously, attempting the other, ya know? I do own a cell-phone, so I am not, completely, 'out of the loop'; however, all my phone is capable of is making calls. As one can never find a road-side pay-phone, I feel more comfortable traveling with a cell. When I participate in my life, I am engaged in it. If I discover that I wish to 'share' my experience(s), I wait til I get home, and, blog a bit, or post. Believe me, I am not 'throwing stones', and, it is not my intention to insult. My point, simply, is this. It's more important to experience one's life, without distraction; see it, breathe it, taste it, smell it, and, share it, up front, and, personal, with others in your life...face-to-face! Just Sayin...
