MUCH Ado About Something!

Yesterday, I experienced having an MRI, for the second- time in my life; this, particular, one, for a knee-injury, which I suffered in February. I must say that, although, aware that these, high-tech X-ray machines are capable of making outrageous-noise, I was ill-prepared for what I went through. The very, first, MRI that I had performed, a few years ago, was a bit 'noisy'; however, nothing can compare to what I was subject to, during yesterday's appointment. The technician attempted to prepare me by placing a headset on me and having me listen to my radio-station of choice, as a method of keeping 'distracted'. Well...lemme tell ya'...I could have had the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra performing 'in my face' and would have been unable, still, to 'block out' the sounds emitted from said machine. Honestly, when first it let loose it's BOOMING and BANGING 'symphony of sound', I nearly jumped outta my skin; this, intrusive and abrasive noise reminiscent of the 'music', made by the E.T's spacecraft, used to communicate with the 'earthlings', in the movie, 'Close-Encounters of The Third-Kind'. If you're old-enough, you may understand the reference, if not...well, take my word on this...it felt as though the 'Mother-Ship' had, indeed,  landed! Off and on, for about half an hour, I was 'battered and bludgeoned' by the cacophony of chaotic, confused, loud, and un-harmonious sounds, to the point of feeling, almost a bit faint, at a point; this, due to the fact that, because of my Fibromyalgia, I have an exquisitely, heightened sense of some of my 'senses', hearing among them. The one 'saving-grace' was that I was in an 'open-MRI' which allowed for my head to be outside of the machine. Had I been fully, enclosed, I believe I may have experienced an 'out of body' experience, if for no reason other than to save myself! I was able, after a bit of time, to get into somewhat of a 'meditative-state', actually, relaxing, slightly, as i awaited the 'grand-finale'; yet, still, quite anxious for the 'concert' to come to a close. Far be it from me to not have an 'appreciation' for 'state-of-the-art' modern-medicine; I'm grateful that diagnostic-methods, as this, exist; for it beats the heck out of more, 'invasive'-procedures, such as 'exploratory'-surgery. If I was subject to this, type, 'treatment' there would be an AWFUL lot of noise to deal with, as well; however, it would be from my own, RANTING, and, this...before the surgery! Just Screamin'...
