'Jeremiah was a bullfrog...'

     On the waterway, close to my property, there sits a bullfrog. From the sounds this little bugger is capable of creating, a fairly large one, I imagine. I've yet to see this bellowing bassist, but, I have a general idea as to where it nestles itself. Each night, as I take the pooches for their last walk of the day, this amazing amphibian greets the otherwise silent surroundings with it's blast of nocturnal noise, rivaling that of any set of bellows I've ever heard, and out-croaking every other R. catesbeiana on the pond. I have a bit of an affinity to and for bullfrogs; it started some many years ago, while on vacation in the 'Sunshine State'. Desirous of bringing gifts home to family and friends, I found myself, shopping as the typical tourist, in specialty stores. Upon a shelf, in such a shop, I was delighted, and, truth be told, a bit taken aback, to find an array of shellacked and preserved bullfrogs, all placed in permanent poses, playing instruments. It was immediately apparent to me for whom I would purchase one of these oddities...my dear ol' Dad. Ralph just LOVED 'Three Dog Night's' lyrical tribute to Jeremiah. As a matter of fact, he and I danced to that song on my wedding day. Funny, huh? One can certainly see where my fondness for this funny frog has been born. So, while I walk along, each evening, during the Summer Season, enjoying my late night stroll, I delight in Mr. Bullfrog, as he wakens to my presence, greets me with his booming voice, and brings Dad to mind. For this reason, this fine froggie is, indeed, 'a very good friend of mine'. Just Sayin'...
