TWISTIK, a revolutionary hair tool that puts one's hair up with a twist of their wrist, is competing in Walmart’s Get On The Shelf online contest, which lets people vote on the products they like.
The 10 products with the most votes move on to the contest’s second round, and the top three will be featured on Walmart.com and sold in Walmart stores. Manufactured in Rhode Island, TWISTIK is the creation of Wakefield’s Brenda McNally, a hairstylist and former salon owner now working in the film and television industry.
The product costs are $4.99 for the basic 6 styles and $8.99 for special edition pieces. McNally introduced the product in late 2011.
Walmart’s contest allows people to vote daily for their favorite product by going to the company’s Get On The Shelf website. People can also vote by texting 297 to 383838.” More information is available about TWISTIK at the TWISTIK website, or by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also see a video of the product at YouTube, if you search for the TWISTIK hair ornament.
“I created TWISTIK as a comfortable, innovative, and practical accessory and tool to free people from the claw, the clamp and the clips that are uncomfortable and unsightly," McNally said. "TWISTIK offers women an easy, fashionable and comfortable way to put their hair up. It is ideal for day at the beach, an afternoon of playing sports or an elegant evening on the town. Walmart’s contest is a great chance to gain exposure for my invention. I hope to be one of the top 10 from the first round to move forward to Round 2.”
Phase one of Walmart’s contest ends April 3. The top 10 products with the most votes then move onto the contest’s second and final phase, which ends on April 24. The Grand Prize winner from this phase is featured on Walmart.com as well as being granted space on WalMart shelves nationwide. The contest’s second and third winners will be given space in WalMart stores only.
TWISTIK is exclusively manufactured in Rhode Island. Bon Design, Inc. in Wakefield assembles each unit by hand.
McNally has worked as a hairstylist on more than 60 movies, both locally and nationally. Her credits include Meet Joe Black, Knight and Day, True Lies, Federal Hill, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and the Cider House Rules. She’s also worked on Moonrise Kingdom, which was filmed last summer in Newport and Jamestown, and Crooked Arrows as the wig Specialist, to be released in April.
