Deepwater Wind Proposes New Plan to Run Underwater Cable to Scarborough

Negotiations between Deepwater Wind and the RI Department of Environmental Management regarding the matter are ongoing.

Following months of public outcry that ultimately led them to withdraw from the Town their application to bring an underwater transmission cable to Narragansett Town Beach, Deepwater Wind has now expressed interest in doing the same at Scarborough State Beach.

The Providence-based company is working to secure an agreement with RIDEM, according to a Providence Journal report, which would allow it to bring the underwater cable from Deepwater's future five-turbine wind farm off the coast of Block Island, under Scarborough Beach and then to the region's power grid.

On Aug. 5, Deepwater officials announced their retraction of the same plan, but with landfall at Narragansett Town Beach, following much concern for the area's summer tourism industry.
