Cider and Santa and Bazaars, Oh My!

Plenty of opportunity to shop local is available this weekend starting with Ladies Night in Wakefield tonight and finishing up with the tree lighting at the Village Green on Sunday.

 

Tonight is Ladies Night in Wakefield. The popular event runs 5-9 p.m. and the shops are gearing up with specials, in store raffles, free refreshments and fun. Horse drawn carriage rides will help get you around. Click here for a list of participating stores and their specials.

 Rest up on Friday then pull on some comfortable shoes and limber up. There are tons of holiday events to hit this weekend.

 Saturday, Dec. 3:

 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., , 383 Old North Rd, Kingston will be having a Christmas bazaar featuring hand-crafted items with original and unique designs. Crocheted and knitted items, ornaments, floor mats, aprons, handbags, jewelry, greens arrangements, children's shopping area, baked goods, 50-50 raffle and white elephant room. Proceeds to benefit The Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County as well as church projects

 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., , 261 Columbia St. is holding a Christmas bazaar. Goodies include wreaths, table arrangements, holiday baskets; baked goods, "White Elephants", used books, jewelry, handicrafts, vendors and a homemade soup bar.

 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., , 134 Salt Pond Rd. Local artist Amber Bettez  of Silver Tides Jewelry is holding a Jewelry Trunk Show. Unique gemstones, fossils, sea glass, and other organic materials wrapped in sterling silver! Each design is one of a kind.

9 a.m. – 2 p.m., , 370 Main St. is holding a Christmas bazaar. Expect to find fresh hand made wreaths and arrangements, outdoor baskets, gifts, silent auction, home baked goods and deli, knitted items, attic treasures and a lunch counter.

9 a.m. – 3 p.m., The Village at South County Commons is hosting a Merry, Merry Christmas beginning with a pancake Breakfast with Santa at 9am at for $2 per person. Santa will then ride in a horse drawn carriage down South County Commons Way to his throne in a heated tent and join Mrs. Claus for photos. A strolling brass band will be serenading shoppers and Cardi’s Furniture is accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys for the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m., , 109 Kersey Rd. is holding its 7th annual bazaar. There will be over 45 vendors offering handmade jewelry, clothing, gifts, gourmet treats, holiday crafts and more. There is a Scholastic Book fair and a shopping area just for the kids. Live music will be provided by South Kingstown music students.

 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., 1859 Mooresfield Rd, Kingston is hosting a Christmas Festival with the Fayerweather Craft Guild. You will find a wide assortment of unique gift items designed and created by local artisans. There will also be fresh Georgia pecans for holiday giving and cookies, hot ciderand Christmas carols sung by a choir.

10 a.m. – 3 p.m., . Free walking tours through the historic village, gift book sale at , Christmas cookie sale at , open house with live music at Lily's at Little Rest B&B, antique post cards and books sale at . Free refreshments, cider, coffee at most locales.

10 a.m. – 6 p.m., , 2587 Kingstown Road, Kingston is holding its 41st annual Holiday Pottery and Art Sale. On sale will be assorted bowls, plates, pots, and ornaments in clay; small paintings, drawings, textiles and photography. Representing more than 50 artist members from all over South County and the New England area, the Holiday Sale is a major fundraiser for the South County Art Association. The sale continues Wed – Sun, 10 am – 6pm through December 11th.

10 a.m. – 5 p.m., , 3481 Kingstown Rd, West Kingston is holding its 21st annual ArtCraft Show & Sale. Fine crafts from local artisans will be on display as well as unique, edgy, finely crafted wearable and decorative art for show and sale. Pianist/Composer Robin Spielberg: Sat. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. South County Children's Art Show: Reception Sun. 1-2 p.m. ARTISAN Cafe will be open Sat. and Sun. 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. serving soups, sandwiches and baked goods. Admission is a $3 donation, $2 CCA Members. Donations will benefit Art Center programming. Show continues Sunday.

10 a.m. – 2 p.m., South Kingstown Wintertime Farmer’s Market, 1425 Kingstown Rd. has more than just veggies. You can also find plants, cut flowers, local honey and maple syrup, tasty kettle korn, bakery goodies, lobsters, oysters and clams, dog biscuits, herbal products, garlic, chowder and clam cakes and gifts. Open every Saturday through March.

Whew! But wait, there’s more. When you are done shopping and eating your way through Saturday you can go out for some entertainment. The URI Holiday Concert is at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Rd. Kingston. This popular annual concert showcases the URI Symphony Orchestra, Ann Danis conductor, and the URI Concert Choir, Mark Conley, conductor, performing music of the season. Concert Choir will join the orchestra in performing Vivaldi's popular, 12-movement Gloria.  Soloists will be Katherine Hammersley, Erin Maughan and Celia Tafuri. The orchestra program includes Sleigh Ride, and music from the Polar Express among other holiday favorites. Tickets go on sale an hour before the concert.

10 a.m. – 5 p.m., , ArtCraft Show & Sale. (see Saturday’s listing)

10 a.m. – 6 p.m., , Pottery & Art Sale. (see Saturday’s listing)

12 – 5 p.m., Sweenor’s Chocolates, 21 Charles St. is having its annual holiday open house. You can watch the candy being made right in the shop.

12 – 5 p.m., Cherry Branch Plaza stores at 40 Charles St. , , and will be holding open houses, featuring holiday sales.

2 – 3 p.m., , 1057 Kingstown Rd. is hosting a Holiday recorder concert of early and Renaissance music by the group Amaryllis. The ensemble consists of 7 local musicians: Althea Jordan, Mark Berman, Megan Magee, Jacqueline Edwards, Nathaniel Vaccaro, Emily Phelps, and the group's leader, Erika Poggie. The event is free of charge and open to the public and refreshments will be served

After the concert you can head right over to the , 325 Columbia St., for the Tree Lighting Festivities. The Village Green will be ready for Santa's arrival.  Luminaries will be displayed, trees will be full of beautiful lights, and the Guild will be full of fun for everyone! 

4:30 – 6 p.m., Horse and Carriage rides through the Peace Dale Mill Complex.

4:30 - 5:45 p.m., Crafts and more for children (some age restrictions will apply).

4:45 - 5:45 p.m., Movie showing in the gym

6 p.m., The Wakefield Concert Band will perform on the Village Green. Complimentary hot chocolate and candy canes

6:15 p.m., Santa arrives by fire truck to help with the tree lighting

6:30 - 7:15 p.m., Santa will visit with children and parents in the Neighborhood Guild Lounge
