Here are the (more than) Five Things for Saturday, October 27, 2012:
Buy some books, and some cookies! The Friends of the Peace Dale Library are having a book and bake sale at 9 a.m.
Work on your backhand, your serve, your smashing at the net… There is drop-in tennis at the courts at Broad Rock Middle School starting at 9 a.m. The cost is just $3.
What delicious produce! The Cross Mills farmers’ market meets at 9 a.m. on Old Post Road in Charlestown. The South Kingstown and URI farmers’ market meets at 8:30 a.m. at East Farm.
Prepare for Christmas, wicked early. Waves of Creation is hosting an ornament painting day starting at 11 a.m. The cost is $2.25.
“A pox o’ your throat, you bawling, blasphemous, incharitable dog!” – The Bard. The Contemporary Theater Company puts on The Tempest tonight. Tickets are $20, and the show is at 7 p.m.
Dosey doe, maybe? Some English country dancing will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the South Kingstown Land Trust Barn.
A titanic tribute to the Titanic. The URI symphony orchestra puts on the “Titanic Tribute” at 8 p.m. Admission is $10.
“There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand.” – Mary Shelley. Here are today’s scary events:
- There is a Halloween gallery night at Silver Tides Jewelry on Boon Street at 6 p.m.
- The Pettaquamscutt Historical Society presents “The Haunts of Little Rest Hill” at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $15.
Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).
“We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.” – Bob Ross. The Courthouse Center for the Arts is looking for art submissions for a December show. For more information, click here.
Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!
Whoooooooosh! On this day in 1961, the Saturn 1 rocket was tested.
Easy sewing that sings. Happy birthday to Isaac Singer! I mean, sure, he died in 1875, but he was a pretty cool inventor.
