Cupcake Madness Takes Over The Towers

Seventeen bakeries and hundreds of guests descended upon the Narragansett Towers for Cupcake Madness, an event benefiting the Friends of Hazard Castle.

Cupcake Madness hit the Narrgansett Towers Sunday afternoon, as hundreds of sweet-toothed families stopped by to taste some of the finest cupcakes Rhode Island has to offer.

Seventeen bakeries from across the state came armed with hundreds of beautifully decorated cupcakes to compete for the title of best cupcake in a head-to-head competition. This coveted title was ultimately awarded to Fatulli's Bakery from Middletown.

Bakeries could also chose to compete in categories including frosting, gluten-free, a landmark themed cupcake, and more. Chef judges Frank Teranova, Ciril Hitz, Mitch Stamm and Dean Lauornia, and Michaela Johnson from The Rhode Show, spent the afternoon tasting each and every cupcake until they determined the winners.

Youth chef Tyler Pereira proudly took home top prize in the youth category for his chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache, hazelnut filling, and Reese's candies.

The "most popular" cupcake ended up going to the upstart Cranston company Sugar Mama's Sweets and Treats.
