Snowfall Total Vary Around State

The wind-driven snow that fell across Rhode Island for most of Tuesday, into Wednesday morning blanketed the state to varying degrees, with some areas digging out from under more than a foot, while others can just back the car over 5 inches.

Most forecasters were predicting the storm would dump 6-12 inches across the state, noting that the strong winds would alter snowfall totals from area to area. And, for the most part, most forecasters were right. 

One surprise is where the deepest snow fell. Originally forecast as a coastal storm that would hit the coast and East Bay the hardest, the usual areas north and west of Providence ended up hitting the jackpot. Glocester appears to have gotten the most snow, totaling 12.2 inches, according to the Weather Channel. That is followed by Woonsocket with 11.3 inches and Smithfield with 11.

The lowest totals actually fell in Providence and towns east of the city, averaging around 5 inches, while the southern part of the state saw just a bit more.
