'Ocean Road 10K' to Benefit Narragansett Historical Society

Race registration is $35 through Sept. 15, after which entry fees will be increased to $40.

In an effort to raise funds for the Narragansett Historical Society, an annual road race has been organized, with its inauguration scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.

The scenic 6.2-mile run/walk starts at the Pt. Judith Lighthouse, travels north on Ocean Road, under the Towers and finishes at Narragansett Town Beach. Newport-based Gray Matter Marketing, who also manages the Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run, Newport 10 Miler and the Rhode Island Brew Fest are producing the event. $5 from every entry fee will go directly to the Historical Society.

“For the past five years I have been involved with producing road races in Rhode Island” said Matthew Gray, President of Gray Matter Marketing. “I think this flat, scenic course has the potential to be a draw for locals as well as runners from across the country for years to come. We are honored to help the Historical Society raise money through this race.”

“The Narragansett Historical Society is pleased to be the beneficiary of the Ocean Road 10k ,” said Shirley Eastham, Special Events Coordinator of the Narragansett Historical Society. “Not only will the race raise much needed funds for our organization, but the inaugural event will also align with the Town of Narragansett’s 125th Anniversary festivities.”

Race entry fees are $35 through Sept. 15, and include a race shirt, timing chip, and post race food and beverages. From Sept. 16 to Oct. 1, entry fees will be $40 per person.
