Over 800 students are expected to attend the annual Rhode Island Veterans Appreciation Day.

Narragansett High School students on Thursday will honor local veterans.

The second annual Rhode Island Veterans Appreciation Day will be held at East Greenwich High School from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Narragansett High is one of several high schools sending students to the event. Over 800 students are expected to attend.

Over 80 veteran who served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and current-day conflicts will be on hand. They will be interviewed by students in small groups.

Rhode Island native Col Babcock, who won the Silver Star, will speak.

"The objective is to help students better understand what it means to serve in the military and to allow students the opportunity to express their thanks and appreciation for veterans' service," the schools said in a statement.

The event is being sponsored by the Suzanne M. Henseler Foundation.
