Narragansett Del's Shandy In Stores Today

Narragansett Beer president Mark Hellendrung said anticipation for the concoction has been incredible.

A limited-edition release of the anticipated Narragansett Del's Shandy is hitting store shelves today.

The Rhode Island brewery announced the release of the new brew that combines two iconic brands into one summer sipper.

Squishing a Del's cup on a hot summer day is burned into the childhood hearts of countless Ocean State natives and the revival of Narragansett Beer some years ago is a bright spot in the state economy.

So it makes sense the two companies teamed up to create what they call a thirst-quenching drink that gives "an effervescent citrus blast backed by just enough sweet malt to keep it from becoming uncomfortably sour."

Narragansett Del's Shandy is brewed under supervision of Brewmaster Sean Larkin and six packs of 16-ounce tallboy cans will be priced at $8.99. It mixes Narragansett lager with Del's lemon concentrate.

Narragansett Beer president Mark Hellendrung said anticipation for the concoction has been incredible.

"The response has been amazing, people have been asking for its release almost daily since first hearing about the beer in February," he said. "When it came to our second ‘Hi Neighbor Mash Up’ collaboration, nothing reminded us of childhood summers on Rhode Island beaches more than Del's."

The mash-up collaborations have proven popular among Rhode Islanders and for this round, they wanted to tap into the growing popularity of shandys.

They wagered slapping a Del's lemon on the label would be something "generations of New Englanders would be thrilled about," Hellendrung said.

Expect to see the can, striped in green and yellow with the Narragansett and Del's logos sharing equal prominence, at cookouts this summer.

Narragansett Del's Shandy is 5 percent alcohol by volume.
