Monday Essentials: Town Council Items, Intro to Paddleboarding and More

Today is Monday, July 22, 2013 and here are five things to know about the week ahead.

Town Council Agenda Items: The South Kingstown Town Council will meet this evening at 7:30 p.m. at SK Town Hall (180 High St., Wakefield). Agenda items include business licenses for Giro's Hometown Grille, donation to the Town of an Automated External Defibrillator, Eagle Scout recognition and more. Click here to view tonight's agenda.

Intro to Paddleboarding: At 10 a.m. tomorrow and every Tuesday in July and August (or by appointment), Narrow River Kayaks offers an "Intro to Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)" course, led by ACA Certified SUP Instructor, Peter Pan. The approximately 90-minute lesson costs $45 per person, which includes all equipment. Advance registration is required. Click here for all the details. 

South County Photo Contest: Share your favorite South County moments captured in time by entering your local photos in this year's Annual South County Photo Contest!  Be it of people, places, or events; of any season; of Charlestown, Coventry, E. Greenwich, Exeter, Hopkinton, Narragansett, N. Kingstown, Richmond, S. Kingstown, W. Greenwich, or Westerly - enter to win the 1st Place $1,000 cash prize, $500 second place cash prize, $250 third place cash prize or one of five Runner-Up $50 prizes! South Ferry Historical Tour: At 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, the Narragansett Historical Society will present a free 90-minute South Ferry Area History Talk and Tour, hosted by Wayne and Bernice Durfee. This entertaining and informative annual event begins at the Coastal Institute at URI's Bay Campus (218 S. Ferry Rd., Narragansett). Click here for more information.

SKHS Recommended Summer Reading: To keep those minds busy over the laid back summer months, administrators at South Kingstown High School have issued an extensive list of recommended titles for students to read during their summer vacation (in addition to mandatory summer reading). The list includes biographies/autobiographies/memoirs, survivor/adventure stories, well-known classics, mystery/intrigue/horror titles, and historical texts - so there's bound to be a book for everyone!
