Maury Loontjens Memorial Library Aims for National Grid Spotlight

The Library will participate in National Grid's "Light Up Your Library Community Tour" on Thursday.

From 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library (Narragansett Public Library), located at 35 Kingstown Road in Narragansett, will host a free evening of interactive exhibits, games and prizes and for all ages. 

The family event is part of National Grid's "Light Up Your Library Community Tour," running in Rhode Island and Massachusetts throughout November, which seeks to "raise awareness about energy efficiency as residents prepare for the cold winter months," according to the energy provider. 

During Thursday's event, National Grid representatives will be on-site to teach families how to save energy and money at home. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase energy-saving compact florescent light bulbs donated by National Grid for $1, with proceeds to benefit the Library. In addition, Radio Disney will be providing family-friendly entertainment from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Tied in with the tour is a contest of which the winner will receive an Energy Star Lighting Makeover worth more than $15,000 from National Grid. The Narragansett library is among two Rhode Island libraries and seven Massachusetts ones, competing for the most Facebook votes from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30. in order to win the makeover.

The winning libraries will also receive a celebratory party with Radio Disney and Disney Junior Entertainment.
