Library's Stone Soup Event Fun For All Ages
Patrons line up for soup at the Narragansett Library this past weekend.
The library was filled with the mouthwatering fragrance of soup as the Friends of the Narraganset Library held their annual Stone Soup buffet Saturday afternoon.
The festivities started at noon with a reading of Stone Soup by Marcia Brown. Diane Sousa, head of the Children’s Room, read the old folk tale to a rapt audience of all ages.
After the reading, Narragansett High School sophomores Abby Ceresi, Hannah Ragozzino and Zach Zuchowski put on an entertaining puppet show for the crowd.

Following the program, patrons lined up for some delicious soup and bread donated by local businesses Trio, the Italian Village, New Dragon Restaurant, Crazy Burger, Belmont Market and Perry’s of Mariner Square. Stop and Shop and Shaw’s supermarkets also donated needed items and Panera donated their signature bread. It was a feast fit for a king!
Generous patrons brought canned and dry goods to donate to the Johnny Cake Center food pantry, and it was a fun afternoon for all. This event would not have been possible without the time and dedication of the Friends of the Narragansett Library.

The Stone Soup event has just recently earned the Friends of the Library an award from the Rode Island Coalition of Library Advocates. They were honored Wednesday at the statehouse with the William E. Reeves Friends’ Recognition Award, which is given to Friends Groups who achieve the best in programming, fundraising and community service. Congratulations!
In addition to the Stone Soup event, the Friends Group runs the very popular annual book sale, which takes place in late spring. Members have access to the sale before the general public.
The Friends Group also helps the library to purchase materials that the yearly budget does not cover, as well as the cost of some of the programs. They are an instrumental part of the library’s success.
The group is always looking for new members. It is currently over 100 members strong, and if you have an interest in helping the library and planning events and fundraisers, stop by to fill out a short application and make a difference in your library today!
