Five Things, July 9: Business Workshop, The Great Gatsby and More

Today is Tuesday, July 9, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

Business Basics: The Southern RI Chamber of Commerce will host a free event, "Business Basics: Ten Steps to Starting a Business" this morning from 8-9:30 a.m. at the Chamber (230 Old Tower Hill Rd., Wakefield). If you are thinking about owning a business or are in the early stages of starting one, then this workshop is for you! Click here for event details.

Gansett Trolley Tours: Reserve your spot today for tomorrow night's Historic Narragansett Trolley Tour, scheduled for July 10 from 10 a.m. until noon. Tour Narragansett on a classic trolley ride narrated by “Mr. Narragansett” himself. Learn about the town’s rich history and take in breath-taking views during a trip led by long-time resident Ted Wright. The Towers serves as your departure and return point. $16 per person. Free Movie - The Great Gatsby: Today from 2-4 p.m., the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library (35 Kingstown Rd., Narragansett) will host a free showing of the 1974 classic film, The Great Gatsby, which was filmed right here in RI. The movie tells the story of Nick Carraway, a young Midwesterner now living on Long Island, who finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his landlord, the nouveau riche Jay Gatsby. (Starring Mia Farrow, Robert Redford, Sam Waterson and Bruce Dern.)

Little Explorers Registration: Register today for one of this summer's South Kingstown Preschool Mini Camps, "Little Explorers", scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday, July 16-18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Join the investigation with your magnifying glass to explore the world of bugs, leaves, frogs and more. Participants will explore the trails of the Tri-Pond Park using nets to explore life in the water. Open to children ages 3-6. $72 per resident, $82 per non-resident.
