Five Things, July 19: Hot Air Balloons, Free Summer Concert and More

Today is Friday, July 19, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

Gansett Summer Concert: It’s outdoor summer concert time! On Friday evenings at 6 p.m., through August 30, Narragansett Beach’s Gazebo Park (25 Ocean Rd.) features a FREE evening of music under the stars! Each week celebrates a different artist with a wide variety of music styles. From jazz and country to blues and contemporary, there’s something for everyone! Tonight's performer is the Jesse Liam Band, covering classics by the Beatles, Rod Stewart, Grateful Dead, Van Morrison and more!

Cooling Centers: Narragansett and South Kingstown officials have designated multiple locations throughout the area as Cooling Centers for residents who need a place to escape the heat. Click here for locations and times.

Hot Air Balloon Festival: It's back!!! The 35th Annual South County Hot Air Balloon Festival kicks off at 4 p.m. tonight! From July 19-21, enjoy watching more than a dozen hot-air balloons at URI's athletic fields, along with food, crafts, games, activities, a carnival and more. There's something for everyone! South County Photo Contest: Share your favorite South County moments captured in time by entering your local photos in this year's Annual South County Photo Contest!  Be it of people, places, or events; of any season; of Charlestown, Coventry, E. Greenwich, Exeter, Hopkinton, Narragansett, N. Kingstown, Richmond, S. Kingstown, W. Greenwich, or Westerly - enter to win the 1st Place $1,000 cash prize, $500 second place cash prize, $250 third place cash prize or one of five Runner-Up $50 prizes! Plan Ahead - URI Pawsox Night: Join fellow URI alumni and friends on Friday, Aug. 16 for an evening of minor league baseball and an all-you-can-ear barbecue at McCoy Stadium. Tickets for the all inclusive evening are 50% cheaper than normal: only $15 each for adults and $7 for children 3-12. Children 2 and under get in free.
