E-ZPass Transponder Discount to End Saturday

At 1 p.m. on Saturday, E-ZPass units will return to their regular price of $20.95, up more than 50% from the discounted $10 fee.

Since June 4, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) has sold more than 13,000 E-ZPass transponders at a discounted promotional price of $10. On Saturday, July 13 at 1 p.m., the transponders will return to the regular price of $20.95.

Transponder units can be purchased at RITBA headquarters in Jamestown, select AAA locations, and online at www.ritba.org. (An application is also attached to this article as a PDF file.)

E-ZPass is an electronic toll-collection system used on tolled roads, bridges, and tunnels in the Northeastern U.S., south to North Carolina, and west to Illinois. In Rhode Island, the transponders are used to collect tolls on the Newport Pell Bridge and will be used to collect the new ten-cent toll on the Sakonnet River Bridge in August.
