Rhode Island Nonprofits Receive Workforce Development Grants from Bank of America

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has announced $287,500 in grants to 13 nonprofits in Providence to help connect the unemployed, underemployed, youth and those with disabilities to training and employment opportunities. The funds are part of more than a half million dollars given by the Foundation to Providence-area workforce development programs over the last nine months.

“Countless individuals and families have benefitted from the services these organizations provide, not to mention the impact on our local economy,” said Bill Hatfield, Rhode Island President, Bank of America.  “Simply put, job readiness and placement has never been more important.”

Year Up helps empower urban youth by preparing them to enter the corporate workforce and seek higher education. They accomplish this though a high-support, high-expectation model that combines marketable job skills, life skills training, stipends, corporate internships, college credit and multiple levels of support.
