Grammy-nominated Singer/Songwriter and Philanthropist Recognized for Commitment to the Arts

Providence native, Jeffrey Osborne, was recently honored Monday evening at the2014 Pell Awards at Trinity Repertory Company for his continued commitment to the arts. Osborne, a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter was presented with the New England Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts for his long-standing support of music and achievements in the arts.


“I’m incredibly honored to be among this year’s Pell Award recipients,” said Jeffrey Osborne. “Sharing, caring and giving back is incredibly important and I am committed to doing everything I can to support the arts in Rhode Island.”


This summer, Osborne will host the third annual Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classictaking place August 11-12 at The Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth, R.I.  Earvin “Magic” Johnson will return to once again co-host the event. The star-studded, two-day golf event benefits charities that supports initiatives to bring music and arts back to the public school system and those that provide safe, enriching environments and services for families and children in need. To date, more than $300,000 has been distributed to Rhode Island non-profits that represent the Foundation’s mission. The goal of this year’s event is to award $250,000 to local non-profits. Also receiving Pell Awards were Mary Paula Hunter who received the Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts, and Richard and Sharon Jenkins who received the Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. Additional information can be found at www.trinityrep.com.
