URI Public Education Forum (and 4 More Things)

    Free Star Trek Screening: Today from 2-4 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m., Narragansett Public Library (25 Kingstown Road) will host a free showing of this year's sci-fi blockbuster, "Star Trek - Into Darkness" (PG-13). The movie tells the story of when the Enterprise crew is called back home, and finds that an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving the world in a state of crisis. (Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana).

    Public Education Forum: At 7 p.m. tonight and each Tuesday evening through Dec. 10, the University of Rhode Island Fall 2013 Honors Colloquium will offer public education forums in Edwards Auditorium on the Kingston Campus. In this series, coordinated by David Byrd and Diane Kern, participants will explore how education still matters and debate key issues central to understanding the future of public schools and higher education.

    Botanical Garden Tour: From 5-6 p.m. this evening and each Tuesday through September, a guided tour of the URI Botanical Gardens and Horridge Conservatory will be offered by the University. Take a stroll through the garden with Head Gardener Gabrielle Torphy and Brian Maynard, Professor of Horticulture. Participants will meet at 5 p.m. at the Outreach Center Gazebo (3 East Alumni Ave., Kingston). Suggested donation is $5, children under 14 are free.

    SK Farmers' Market: Skip the grocery store tonight and pick up some fresh fruits, veggies and baked goods at South Kingstown's outdoor Farmers' Market at Marina Park! From 2-6 p.m. each Tuesday through October, the Park will host the community market that also offers plants, handmade handbags and more. Click here for more information and to view a list of featured vendors.

    Tomorrow - Radical Reels 2013: On Wednesday at 7 p.m., sponsors Denali and Merrell will host The 2013 Radical Reels Tour in Edwards Auditorium at the URI. The tour, now in its tenth year, features adrenaline-packed films that showcase more than half a dozen wild action sports as seen through the eyes of today's top athletes and adventure sport filmmakers.Tickets are $15 per person.
