The B-Sides at Gazebo Park Tonight (and 4 More Things)

Patch's quick take on the essential things to know, the most interesting things to do and best places to be in Narragansett and South Kingstown on Friday, Aug. 9.

Here's a handful of things to keep in mind for today.

If you have an event you'd like us to consider for Five Things, click here to add it to the events calendar. We check it often!

URI Pawsox Night (Deadline Today!):  Join fellow URI alumni and friends on Friday, Aug. 16 for an evening of minor league baseball and an all-you-can-eat barbecue at McCoy Stadium. Tickets for the all inclusive evening are 50% cheaper than normal: only $15 each for adults and $7 for children 3-12. Children 2 and under get in free. Public Stargazing: Weather permitting, the Frosty Drew Observatory (61 Park Ln., Charlestown) will host a Public Stargazing Night, this evening and every Friday night at 6 p.m. Be sure to subscribe to the Frost Drew Observatory mailing list or follow us on Twitter (@FrostyDrewOBSY) to receive status updates about our public stargazing program. This is a free event, however donations are greatly appreciated.

Social Media Streamlining: To make things a bit neater and more organized, we're in the process of merging the Narragansett and South Kingstown Patch Facebook pages since the two towns have shared a site for well over a year now. If you "like" our Narragansett Facebook page and haven't done so already, please do the same for South Kingstown Patch ASAP, as the former will be removed completely once the two are merged.

Gansett Summer Concert: Tonight at 6 p.m., Narragansett Beach’s Gazebo Park (25 Ocean Rd.) will feature a FREE evening of music under the stars! Tonight's performer is the "The B-Sides", an eight-piece show band that aims to provide a throwback dance party for all ages with soul music, humor and interactive trivia. Playing a set with songs from the 50’s to today, The B-Sides will get you up on your feet with music for all styles of dancing.

Comedy at The Contemporary: Tonight at 7 p.m., The Contemporary Theater (327 Main St., Wakefield) will host a performance of A Flea in Her Ear, which tells the story of a wild night of doppelgangers and deception at The Frisky Puss Hotel. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased by clicking here to visit the Theater's website.
