Educational Change Forum This Evening (and 4 More Things)

    Free Movie at Maury Loontjens: Today from 2-3:30 p.m. and again from 6-7:30 p.m, the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library (35 Kingstown Rd., Narragansett) will host a free showing of the 2013 film, The Watsons Go to Birmingham (PG). The movie chronicles the ordinary interactions and everyday routines of the Watsons, an African American family living in Flint, Michigan, and how they are drastically changes after they go visit Grandma in Alabama in the summer of 1963.(Starring Bryce Clyde Jenkins, Harrison Knight, Skai Jackson.)

    Public Education Forum: At 7 p.m. this evening, the University of Rhode Island Fall 2013 Honors Colloquium will offer public a education forum in Edwards Auditorium on the Kingston Campus. This is the last event in a series, coordinated by David Byrd and Diane Kern, which allowed participants to explore how education still matters and debate key issues central to understanding the future of public schools and higher education. This week's forum, "Finnish Lessons - What Can the World Learn from Educational Change in Finland?"will feature a Distinguished International Visiting Scholar address by Pasi Sahlberg, director general of the Centre for International Mobility and Cooperation, Helsinki, Finland. 

    Playing Now at CCA: A Christmas Carol will be performed Dec. 5-22 at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, located at 3481 Kingstown Road in West Kingston. Thursday through Saturday night performances will take place at 8 p.m. Matinees will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Click here for details about this year's eclectic rendition of the holiday classic and find out how to purchase tickets!

    SK Planning Board: Members of the South Kingstown Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. this evening in the SK Town Hall Council Chambers, located at 180 High Street in Wakefield. Click here to view tonight's agenda. 

    Tomorrow - Visit with Santa: From 5:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 11-13, the South Kingstown Neighborhood Guild (325 Columbia St., Wakefield) will host Santa Claus himself who will be stopping by to visit with the children of South Kingstown and their families. Space is limited and registration is required by calling 780-9301 or stopping at the Guild during business hours. $5 fee per family for a 5-minute session. Don't forget your camera!
