Public Education Forum Tonight at URI (and 4 More Things)

    The Princess Bride Screening: Today from 2-4 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m., Narragansett Public Library (25 Kingstown Road) will host a free showing of the 1987 classic, "The Princess Bride" (PG). When the beautiful maiden Buttercup hears that her true love Westley is dead, she reluctantly agrees to marry the loathsome Prince Humperdinck. After Westley returns to rescue Buttercup, the two begin an epic adventure filled with fencing, fighting, giants, monsters, miracles, true love and hilarity (Starring Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin and Robin Wright).

    Public Education Forum: At 7 p.m. tonight and each Tuesday evening through Dec. 10, the University of Rhode Island Fall 2013 Honors Colloquium will offer public education forums in Edwards Auditorium on the Kingston Campus. In this series, coordinated by David Byrd and Diane Kern, participants will explore how education still matters and debate key issues central to understanding the future of public schools and higher education.

    Botanical Garden Tour: From 5-6 p.m. this evening and each Tuesday through September, a guided tour of the URI Botanical Gardens and Horridge Conservatory will be offered by the University. Take a stroll through the garden with Head Gardener Gabrielle Torphy and Brian Maynard, Professor of Horticulture. Participants will meet at 5 p.m. at the Outreach Center Gazebo (3 East Alumni Ave., Kingston). Suggested donation is $5, children under 14 are free.

    SK Farmers' Market: Skip the grocery store tonight and pick up some fresh fruits, veggies and baked goods at South Kingstown's outdoor Farmers' Market at Marina Park! From 2-6 p.m. each Tuesday through October, the Park will host the community market that also offers plants, handmade handbags and more. Click here for more information and to view a list of featured vendors.

    Plan Ahead - International Wine & Local Cuisine: From 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, the Southern RI Chamber of Commerce's International Wine & Local Cuisine event will take place at the Peacedale Mill Complex (1425 Kingstown Rd., South Kingstown). The popular event will feature great eats from Matunuck Oyster Bar, George's of Galilee, Coast Guard House, Wild Wood Catering, Crazy Burger and many more local vendors and eateries! Tickets are $35 per person or $300 for a pack of 10. Click here for details.
