Tour URI's Botanical Gardens This Evening (and 4 More Things)

    Library Free Movie: Today from 2-3:30 p.m. and again from 6-7:30 p.m., the Narragansett Library (35 Kingstown Rd.) will host a free showing of the Lifetime film, "Betty & Coretta", (not rated), which tells the story of two extraordinary women - Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dr. Betty Shabazz, wife of Malcolm X. After their husbands' tragic assassinations, the two developed a unique friendship spanning three decades as they carried on the Civil Rights movement while supporting their families as single mothers. Starring Mary J. Blige and Angela Bassett.

    SK Farmers' Market: Skip the grocery store tonight and pick up some fresh fruits, veggies and baked goods at South Kingstown's outdoor Farmers' Market at Marina Park! From 2-6 p.m. each Tuesday through October, the Park will host the community market that also offers plants, handmade handbags and more. Click here for more information and to view a list of featured vendors.

    Jim Gaffigan at URI: On Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m., the University of Rhode Island's Ryan Center will host comedian, Jim Gaffigan with a Special Guest.     Botanical Garden Tour: From 5-6 p.m. this evening and every Tuesday through September, a guided tour of the URI Botanical Gardens and Horridge Conservatory will be offered by the University. Take a stroll through the garden with Head Gardener Gabrielle Torphy and Brian Maynard, Professor of Horticulture. Participants will meet at 5 p.m. at the Outreach Center Gazebo (3 East Alumni Ave., Kingston). Suggested donation is $5, children under 14 are free.

    SRICC Business After Hours: From 5-7 p.m. tomorrow, Aug. 21, the Southern RI Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Business After Hours event at A&B Family Appliances, located at 446A Main Street in Wakefield. Be sure to bring lots of business cards for networking! Registration for the event is $5 per person and can be completed by clicking here.
