More than just a thrift store, the Jonnycake Center on Kingstown Road extends itself beyond its storefront to help eliminate hunger in the community. The center also aims to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in need, no matter what the circumstances. Proceeds from the store and food donations support not only the work of the center but also the emergency food pantry located just behind the store. Here Jonnycake Center staff issue food and other essential goods to more than 1,100 individuals each month. The center also provides holiday meal baskets, clothing and other household items. Cooking and nutrition classes are available, as are clothing and supplies for young children. The Center has even partnered with the local Animal Rescue League to provide an emergency pet food pantry as well.
